Bending Towards the Light
A Jazz Nativity by Anne Phillips
For 15 years now, audiences in the Pikes Peak region have been able to see a live performance of the one-act holiday opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” by Gian Carlo Menotti, at no cost.
Originally commissioned for the small screen in the 1950’s, it was the first opera to be televised, specifically designed to bring opera to people of all walks of life.
In keeping with tradition, the Colorado Springs Conservatory will stage the opera again in December. But this year, the evening will be a double performance, coupled with “Bending Towards the Light,” a Jazz Nativity.
A truly inspirational rendition of the same story told through the medium of jazz.
The Conservatory hopes more families than ever will be able to attend this Gift to the Community—two professional performances, open to the public, for a free evening of vision and beauty.
