Boyd Sweeney
Boyd Sweeney holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Colorado State University – Pueblo, where he studied clarinet and music education, and focused his attention in the areas of jazz and composition. Boyd is the founding director of the band and choir programs at Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning, where he has found great success with their performing groups since their inaugural season in 2013. Additionally, Boyd serves as an adjudicator for the Fountain Fort Carson School District 8 Solo and Ensemble Festival, guest conductor for FFCHS Honor Choirs, and is in his second year with the Colorado Springs Conservatory as a clarinet, saxophone and jazz mentor.
Boyd’s big band and jazz compositions have been showcased throughout major events in Colorado including the Greeley Jazz Festival, the KCME What If Festival, and TEDx Colorado Springs. When he isn’t teaching or composing music, Boyd performs regularly with his eight-piece jazz band, a local favorite which specializes in 1930’s and 40’s-era swing music.
