PICCOLO CLASS · Ages 0-3

18+ guardian attendance required

Max of 8 students per series (plus one 18+ guardian per student)
Tuition $60 (covers one 4-class series)

THE EXPERIENCE:

The PICCOLO program is designed to foster a love of music in children and give each child the opportunity to forge important social and emotional life skills, as early as possible. Each section of the PICCOLO program consists of a curriculum designed specifically to develop children’s motor skills, language, cognitive abilities, social/emotional skills, and brain development. We are pleased to bring this unique and robust curriculum to those who are seeking a program that enhances their child’s life and promotes access to all things creative!

RECORDING ARTS CAMP · Ages 8-10 | Ages 11-18

THE EXPERIENCE:

At Recording Arts Camp, students will learn the ins and outs of Music Production and Audio Engineering! Students will be writing, recording and engineering each other’s songs. Students will produce and leave camp with an original album! No musical experience required!

WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle, a snack, and an instrument, if you have one.

At Musical Theater Camp, students develop imagination, creativity, self-confidence, and an understanding of the relationship between their body, music and storytelling. Students will be engaged in a variety of age-appropriate acting games, vocal exercises, and musical theatre dance techniques. Through aspects of improv and teamwork, students will apply the skills they have learned to create a brief ‘scene into song’ showcase, to be presented on the final day of camp.

THE EXPERIENCE:

At Musical Theater Camp, students will be immersed in the world of script analysis, vocal technique and musical theatre dance concepts. Through monologue and song study, students will develop individual skills in creating deeper characters that will really bring their performances to life. From lessons in vocal anatomy to deep dives into musical theatre history, students will leave with a deeper understanding of not only the functional performance aspects of musical theatre, but also with an understanding of where the genre has come from and where they can lead it in the future. In addition to individual work, students will work as a collective to build an ensemble that will present a brief “scene into song” showcase for the final day.

THE EXPERIENCE:

At Rock Band Camp, students will experience guitar, drums, bass, keyboard and singing! Learn about the history of Rock-and-Roll! Students get to learn new instruments, form a band, learn and rehearse songs, and perform a rock show on the last day of camp! All skill levels welcome.

THE EXPERIENCE:

Have you always wanted to write music for movies? Join us for Film Scoring Camp! Student composers will pair up with student filmmakers from the Youth Documentary Academy and compose an original score to an original documentary film. Student teams have access to our entire recording studio, as well as to professional musicians, recording engineers and filmmaking mentors. Come be a part of this unforgettable week!

THE EXPERIENCE:

Singer/Songwriter Camp is a chance for new and experienced songwriters to write, collaborate and record their original songs! Work with a team of experienced mentors, musicians and recording engineers, and watch as your songs come to life! All students will leave camp with studio-quality recordings of their original works.

MUSICAL THEATER “WORKSHOP” · Ages 8-13 | Ages 14-18

(Attendance to one Musical Theater Camp suggested, but not required)

THE EXPERIENCE:

Students will ‘workshop’ Seussical – a musical-comedy based on the many works of Dr. Seuss – from the first audition to the final curtain call. Students will get a crash course in the experience of being in a musical through studies in audition techniques and character development, all the way through a final performance. Students will leave knowing exactly how to attack their next musical theatre role. In a short ensemble presentation from the week’s work, students will be able to put their new knowledge on display on the final day.

STRING LAB · Ages 7-10 BEGINNER | Ages 11-18 INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

AGES 7-10

THE DATES:

Session 7 · August 2-August 5 from 1pm-3:30pm

THE EXPERIENCE:

Come learn the basics of string-playing! Students will develop their technical and musical skills in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on right and left hand technique, ear training, note reading, instrument care, and basic ensemble playing.  We will use familiar folk tunes to train listening and attention skills, and students will learn how to seek and appreciate their own unique voice in playing music. Hands-on activities that include making training instruments will support practical care and practice of their instrument.  Be prepared to train new muscles through stretches and light exercises, as playing any instrument requires similar discipline to playing a sport. Students will leave ready to make beautiful music!

THE EXPERIENCE:

Our summer strings intensive will equip students to develop their artistry in technique review, ear training, performance etiquette, note reading, and collaborative playing. Basic finger patterns, scales, and bow exercises will condition technique while musicality is advanced through focused listening, providing feedback, and developing confidence in performing. Students will learn the importance of taking care of their body through stretches, appropriate posture, and light exercises. All students will have the opportunity to perform at the end in solo and group pieces. Students will be prepared to apply these skills in their school or local ensemble and home practice.

Learn the basics of piano technique, note reading, and performance in a fun and interactive setting. Students will build piano artistry through collaborative song-learning activities, engaging technical explorations, and stimulating reading exercises. Additionally, students will learn musicianship, listening, and improvisation skills that will enhance and complement their piano learning experience.

THE EXPERIENCE:

This interactive, action-packed camp will focus on building technique and finger speed, improving sight reading, strengthening collaboration skills, gaining confidence in performing, and much more. Students will participate in a Scale Ninja Challenge, song learning workshop, and interactive sight-reading assessments. Students will also have the opportunity to collaborate on duets and ensemble pieces, as well as join in group discussions on practice strategies and other piano-related topics.

THE EXPERIENCE:

Do you feel like you’re not improving at guitar? When you try to rock, do people tell you to roll?! Guitar lab is designed to help students improve their playing in a short amount of time. Even better, students will be able to take the skills they learn in this camp and apply them toward their own development. Students will learn: The most effective ways to practice, how to play in an ensemble with other guitar players, how to read sheet music and chord charts on their instruments, scales and chord voicings that will help them learn songs on their own, and how to use correct technique and break bad habits.

DRUM CAMP · Ages 11-13 BEGINNER MIDDLE-SCHOOL PERCUSSIONISTS

THE EXPERIENCE:

At Drum Camp, we will provide beginning middle school percussionists the important fundamentals of rudimental drumming and concert snare drum (note: this is NOT a drum set camp). No prior knowledge of middle school band or drumming is required of students. This camp is also geared towards ANY drum student who wishes to “refresh” and “refine” their technique, which can apply to all percussion instruments. We will cover stick techniques, beginning theory concepts, and necessary musician skills for middle school band. There will be daily clinics where students will learn about the art of drum set, interactive hand drumming, concert percussion, and more!

All scheduling done based on mentor availability.

One-on-one lessons available for instrumental, voice, recording arts, composition, theater, and dance students. Summer lessons are an important part of all student development. Summer is the perfect time to engage at a more robust level as students are able to focus more during this time of the year. Scheduling can be made to accommodate family vacation plans as well as around other summer obligations. At Colorado Springs Conservatory, the health and safety of our students and team are of the utmost importance. Our 2021 Summer Camp and Program sessions are purposefully designed as small groups (8-12 students), and we are diligent about practicing social distancing, mask-wearing, hand-washing, taking temperature checks and other COVID-19 “Children’s Day Camp” guidelines as outlined by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. Agreeing to our Covid-19 release is a required section of the registration form for each camp session.
