Dale Backus works as a System Safety Engineer for Honeywell on a Government contract that maintains a satellite communications system for the Air Force. On the other hand, so to speak, he also plays on the 88s (with both hands that is) and has received numerous honors in international amateur piano competitions throughout the world including Berlin, Paris, Fort Worth and Colorado Springs where he took First Prize in the 2006 API competition. From these accomplishments, Dale has been an annual guest in the Les Amateurs Festival de Piano which takes place in various locations worldwide. The festival allows outstanding musicians the opportunity to perform in amazing venues and also promotes bringing a broader audience to classical music. From these invitations, Dale has performed in Shanghai China, Saint-Petersburg Russia, Buenos Aires Argentina, and just this past summer in Paris France. Further, Dale has also been a guest artist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs. He also teaches piano at the Colorado School of Music of which he founded. Dale lives in Larkspur Colorado on a horse farm and is married to Laura, a gifted and internationally recognized professional equestrian trainer and instructor. They have two children, Madeline (19) and Charlotte (17). If you can’t find Dale in the office at Honeywell, or at home teaching/practicing the piano, or on the concert stage, he is likely on the road riding his bike up some crazy steep hill in Colorado.
