“Anastasia” is one such musical. Based on the 1997 animated film of the same name, the 2017 Broadway show adapts the legend of the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia, who was rumored to have escaped the execution of her Russian Imperial family, the Romanovs, in the early 20th century. The only other surviving member was her grandmother, the Dowager Empress.
