The summer “A Positive Note” program (APN) is a four week study in basic music theory and instrument exploration for students with special needs. Students are introduced to music making with drums, ukuleles, and other instruments in an accessible, enjoyable way, promoting fun social, cognitive, and creative engagement. Join us as we learn a deeper appreciation for music as an inclusive community. This program is designed for ages 14 through young adults.

Audition Workshop (Ages 14-18+)

Students will hone their audition technique by perfecting how to study and perform monologues, cold reads, music, dance calls and work on building an audition book they can pull from for upcoming auditions. By the end of the workshop students will be ready to enter the audition room with confidence to book the next role. The week will end with a short presentation of the skills they have worked on through the week.
What to bring: Water bottle and a snack, ½ inch binder, pencil, highlighter

Guitar Camp (Ages 11-18+)

Guitar camp is designed to help students of all levels improve their playing in a short amount of time. Even better, students will be able to take the skills they learn in this camp and apply them toward their own development. Students will learn: The most effective ways to practice, how to play in an ensemble with other guitar players, how to read sheet music and chord charts on their instruments, Scales and chord voicings that will help them learn songs on their own and how to use correct technique and break bad habits.
What to bring: Water bottle, a snack and lunch, a guitar if you have one

Master Class Series
Come learn from master teachers and artists at the Colorado Springs Conservatory Summer Masterclass Series. Classes will be available on voice, piano, guitar, and strings, and will be open for participation to students taking summer lessons at the Conservatory (for an additional fee). Additionally, students not enrolled in summer lessons may apply and audition to participate in a masterclass. Non-participants are also welcome to attend with the purchase of a Masterclass Series pass. Masterclasses will be held 10:00am-12:00pm on the following Fridays:

Students will be engaged in a variety of age-appropriate acting games, vocal exercises, and musical theatre dance techniques. Through aspects of improv and teamwork, students will apply the skills they have learned to create a brief showcase, to be presented on the final day of camp.

Students will build piano artistry through collaborative song-learning activities, engaging technical explorations, and stimulating reading exercises. PICCOLO Class · Ages 0-3

Each week of the PICCOLO summer session includes age-appropriate learning experiences to encourage an early love of music. Students and caregivers will learn the basics of rhythm and pitch including an understanding of solfege and listening/ ear training exercises. The class also promotes bonding and community building through classroom activities designed to encourage participation and peer interaction. Students will also spend time each week singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Read aloud from the Simple Gift Series are designed to develop primary literacy skills and an early love of reading. We are pleased to bring this unique curriculum to those who wish to promote early access to all things music!

One on one lessons available for instrumental, voice, recording arts, composition, theater, and dance students. Summer lessons are an important part of all student development. Summer is the perfect time to engage at a more robust level as students are able to focus more during this time of the year. Experience the Guitar, Drums, Bass, Keyboard and Singing! Learn about the history of Rock and Roll! Students get to learn new instruments, form a Band, learn and rehearse songs and perform a Rock Show on the last day of camp! All skill levels welcome.

Silent Film Music Piano Camp (Ages 10-18+)

At least one year of piano lessons required
Come experience the fun and excitement of performing music for a silent film. Students will get to choose a film, break it down into separate scenes, and pick music that fits the mood of each scene. Each student will learn 2-4 songs to be performed during a live presentation of the film for family and friends on the last day of camp.

Singer-Songwriter Camp (Ages 13-18+)

Singer-Songwriter Camp is a chance for new and experienced songwriters to write, collaborate and record their original songs! Work with a team of experienced mentors, musicians and recording engineers and watch as your songs come to life! All students will leave Camp with studio-quality recordings of their original work.

String Camp (Ages 7-10)

Beginner
Come learn the basics of string-playing! Students will develop their technical and musical skills in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on right and left hand technique, ear training, note reading, instrument care, and basic ensemble playing. We will use familiar folk tunes to train listening and attention skills, and students will learn how to seek and appreciate their own unique voice in playing music. Hands-on activities that include making training instruments will support practical care and practice of their instrument. Be prepared to train new muscles through stretches and light exercises, as playing any instrument requires similar discipline to playing a sport. Students will leave ready to make beautiful music!

Intermediate/Advanced minimum one year of string lessons Our summer strings intensive will equip students to develop their artistry in technique review, ear training, performance etiquette, note reading, and collaborative playing. Basic finger patterns, scales, and bow exercises will condition technique while musicality is advanced through focused listening, providing feedback, and developing confidence in performing. Students will learn the importance of taking care of the body through stretches, appropriate posture, and light exercises. All students will have the opportunity to perform at the end in solo and group pieces. Students will be prepared to apply these skills in their school or local ensemble and home practice.
