Drew Bartels started playing piano when he was seventeen and his love and appreciation for music has grown ever since. The emotion and passion he found in the piano allowed him to express himself in a way that gave him a profound new understanding of himself and music.
What started as learning melodies from soundtracks grew into a deep study of harmony, chord structure, rhythm and theory while learning with renowned jazz pianist and composer Steve Barta. Through this study, Drew began to develop a great appreciation for all genres of music knowing that each one offers rich layers of all those musical elements.
Since 2006, Drew has played and toured with many different artists and bands who have covered a variety of different styles and genres. He has played with rock bands (Abandonato, Year Seven), pop/rock bands (Tyler Ward), singer/songwriters (Sean Waldron, Kellie Prophet), indie artists (Eric Squires, Hillary Gruener), jazz vocalists (Vivian Gail), country artists (Tonja Rose), Christian/gospel artist (Gavin Tait), and has also accompanied the Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble at Colorado State University – Pueblo. He has also been the Music Director for the “Tyler Ward and Crew” Band during their tour across North America in 2011 and for Red Rock Church in 2010.
He is currently the Music Director at Alethia Church where he leads a team of musicians at the church by equipping them to know the musical concepts and understand the spiritual elements of leading a congregation in worship. Drew has also produced, engineered and recorded music for several different artists and has discovered a passion for helping develop artists and their songs. He also owns his own private studio that he opened in 2013 where he teaches on average fifteen piano students and he finds great fulfillment in seeing young musicians grow in their musical abilities. He loves being a part of the Conservatory because of its thriving musical environment and positive atmosphere.
