News of February 2010

The Conservatory has had a very busy month with plenty of diverse student and faculty events and performances.

The Conservatory students had the honor of being part of several performances by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.  Jazz students Brendon Searle and David Musante performed at the after concert party at the Warehouse.

Musical Theater students performed both in the lobby and at the Warehouse at the Valentine’s Day “Three Phantoms” concert.  They sang Broadway favorites to the delight of the audience members.

Joelle Sostheim,  David Musante, CC Wells and Mark Autry delivered 20 singing Valentine messages .  For a $50 donation the students came to folks at work, home, or at another location and sang “I Love You Truly” and “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”, delivered a rose and some chocolate kisses.   They put smiles on everyone who received a Valentine.  The students presented the Valentines for 12 hours on Friday, February 12th.

The Conservatory students and faculty were part of the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Ball Gala.  CSC was joined by our friends from Central City Opera. A festive Italian  theme ran throughout the evening and CSC and CCO provided wonderful Italian songs and arias.  Judeth Shay Burns was featured with the aria from “Madame Butterfly” .   The students were costumed as Italian peasants and helped to serve food as well.  Fun was had by all.

The weekend of February 26th was packed full with activities, rehearsal and performances of “The Worth of a Man: the Life of Winfield Scott Stratton”.  The students from the 2009 Summer Intensive wrote the opera as part of their curriculum.  The lovely music was performed by those students who were able to participate as well as CSC alumni Amber Marek, David Siegel, and Amanda Harvey.  Several students were flown in from out of state.  Friday night’s performance was a fundraising event and attended by nearly 200 invited guests.  Saturday’s event was held at the Pioneers Museum.  The performance of the opera was preceded by family activities.  Richard Marold was on hand as W.S. Stratton himself.  A truly memorable performance in the courtroom, a room ironically W.S Stratton built himself.  Always a remarkable experience when CSC joins forces with the Museum.
