The first Jazz Nite of the new year was preceded by a surprise room dedication to CSC jazz advocate and supporter, Ms. Laura Davis. Contributors, friends, students, alumni and mentors joined in the celebration. Laura had ‘no idea’ of the celebration and was truly moved by the gesture and honor.
“Laura has been by our side since the inception of the Conservatory jazz program and has impacted hundreds of young people and their love of jazz,” said Linda Weise, founding CEO of the CSC.
CSC board member, Sherri Newell Wilkinson and her husband, jazz guitarist and CSC mentor, Wayne Wilkinson led the effort that drew gifts from a life time of jazz lovers and friends. Laura’s husband Rick Crafts worked alongside Wayne, Sherri and Linda to keep the evening a secret from Laura.
Now the students will practice their jazz studies in the ‘Laura Davis Combo Room.’
