The New Year started with a heralded ‘double bill’ of Conservatory productions.
The Company students took on two full-length productions. The High School students presented “Side Show” a musical about the true life story of conjoined twins while the young Company students presented the Junior version of James and the Giant Peach.
Ms. Billie McBride directed ‘Side Show’. “ I love working with Conservatory students- they have so much tenacity for putting together a piece of magnitude,” says McBride.
Vocal coaching included work by CSC alumni Josh Franklin and Tripp Fountain who happened to be in town during the holidays and were eager to help bring the piece to life. Mark Autry, another CSC alumni was in the cast alongside mentors Caren Tackett and Colin Gregory. Colin will be joining the mentor team at CSC after a long 6 year hiatus due to health issues.
“So happy to be back where I feel I am at home,” says Gregory. Make-up for the ‘freaks’ of the Side Show was created by CSC alumni Adelia Adam. The performance was hosted at the Warehouse Restaurant on Cimarron Street just across the street from the conservatory. James Africano created an original menu for guests who came early for dinner before the show.
That production was immediately followed by a stellar performance of “James and the Giant Peach”. CSC alumni, CC Wells directed the piece that included over 30 students ranging in age from 6 to 12 years old. One clever anecdote and song followed another in this fantastic, fast paced production. The lower level performance space was reconfigured for better viewing for the audience and hosted nearly 70 people each of the four performances.
Congrats to all cast and musicians for what was a stellar run of two incredible productions!
