The Conservatory is now offering MUSIKGARTEN classes for preschoolers
After years of success with immersion arts studies for children ages 5 through 19, the Colorado Springs Conservatory is now home to the nationally acclaimed Musikgarten curriculum for parents and their children ages 3 through 5 years.
Musikgarten classes nurture a child’s musical and emotional development through joyful musical play. Every class creates a balance of sitting, moving and playing instruments. Musikgarten is built upon carefully sequenced lessons comprised of developmentally appropriate activities in order to build singing, listening, ensemble and instrument playing skills, as well as a pathway to music literacy. The goal is music-making as a natural part of life and this is accomplished by including the family. At each stage of Musikgarten programs, the family is involved so that music becomes part of the child’s everyday life. It is a way to integrate the senses and music to reach all learning styles in children. Music awakens and stimulates neural pathways in the brain that are associated with higher forms of intelligence, such as abstract thinking, empathy, mathematics and science. Overall, music activities are perfect for child development. Music immerses the child in language, evokes movement, stimulates the brain and fosters physical coordination – all in a group setting that builds community – a holistic experience.
It is for this very reason that the marriage of the ongoing CSC curriculum and the Musikgarten seemed logical. Since 1994, the Conservatory students have made their love of the arts and desire to master their craft through immersion studies paramount. The Conservatory agenda encourages application through comprehension and application. Starting at the age of 3? Even better. Including the parents? Even better.
